Free rating calculator

What would it take to reach your target rating?

Explore how the number and average of new ratings could change your overall average. Try a scenario, then adjust the assumptions.

Build your scenario

The starting values are an example. Replace them with your own numbers.

Enter a whole number from 1 to 1,000,000.

Use your current average on the 1–5 scale.

Your scenario estimate

Enter your assumptions and calculate to see the result.

A displayed Google score may hide the underlying average. Your result is an estimate from the values you supply, not a prediction of Google's displayed score or update timing.

How the calculation works

An overall rating is a weighted average: total rating points divided by the number of ratings. More existing ratings mean that the same number of new ratings changes the average less.

For a higher target, when the new-rating average is above it:

Additional ratings = round up [current count × (target − current average) ÷ (new-rating average − target)]

How Google calculates review scores

Example: 40 ratings at 4.2

With 40 existing ratings averaging 4.2, a target of 4.5 and an assumed new-rating average of 4.8, the scenario needs 40 additional ratings. Change any assumption and the result changes.

Use the scenario to understand feedback

Invite honest feedback from customers with real experiences. Do not offer incentives, filter out unhappy customers or ask only for positive reviews. A rating target is not a staff review quota.
